What is a Fetal MRI?
Fetal MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is an advanced prenatal imaging technique that provides detailed, high-resolution pictures of your unborn baby — without any radiation. It is typically performed after 20 weeks of pregnancy when standard ultrasound findings need further clarification.
Unlike ultrasound, fetal MRI offers superior soft-tissue contrast, making it especially valuable for evaluating the fetal brain, spinal cord, chest, abdomen and other organs that may be difficult to assess clearly on ultrasound alone.
At Adhiraj Imaging, our GE 1.5 Tesla MRI machine combined with our experienced fetal radiologists ensures you receive the most accurate and complete assessment of your baby's development.
Why Choose MRI Over Ultrasound?
Clinical Indications When is Fetal MRI Recommended? Fetal MRI is advised when ultrasound findings require additional clarification, or when specific fetal structures need detailed evaluation.
Fetal Brain Abnormalities
Ventriculomegaly, corpus callosum agenesis, cortical malformations, posterior fossa anomalies, hydrocephalus, and suspected central nervous system lesions.
Chest & Lung Assessment
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), pulmonary sequestration, congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM), and lung maturity assessment.
Abdominal Organ Anomalies
Abdominal wall defects, renal malformations, bowel anomalies, hepatic masses, and assessment of the placenta in complex cases.
Spinal Cord Evaluation
Neural tube defects, spina bifida, sacral agenesis, spinal cord masses and tethered cord suspected on ultrasound.
Twin & Multiple Pregnancies
Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) complications, selective intrauterine growth restriction, and neurological sequelae in complicated twin pregnancies.
Inconclusive Ultrasound
Poor acoustic window, maternal obesity, oligohydramnios, or whenever the obstetrician or fetomaternal specialist needs additional anatomical detail beyond what ultrasound provides.
