What to discuss before your PET CT appointment
Tell the nuclear medicine team about pregnancy or possible pregnancy, breastfeeding, diabetes, medicines and supplements, allergies, recent illness and any previous contrast reaction.
Preparation depends on the prescribed examination. Ask for clear instructions about food, drinks and medicines. If you have diabetes, arrange an individual plan for meal and medicine timing with the responsible team; do not make changes on your own. If you are breastfeeding, obtain specific instructions before the appointment.
Plan for the whole visit
The visit includes time for the injected tracer to be taken up before imaging, so scanner time is not the same as total appointment time. Confirm when to arrive, how long to allow and how you will receive your report. Ask about any instructions to follow after leaving.
